Preneet Kaur, former Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs, and ex- MP, in an interview with Bhawana Malik says that the Congress is in midst of chaos and infighting in the party ranks. She also said that she has a vision of a prosperous Punjab where the youth enjoy a stable future.

Qn: You and your family have been Congress loyalists throughout. What made you to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)?

Kaur: The way the Congress party treated my husband, Captain Amarinder Singh (former Punjab CM) and then suspended me by alleging that I was indulging in anti-party activities, shows that there is total disrespect for the leaders and party loyalists. This made me decide to finally take a call to leave the Congress.

Qn: Did the Congress leadership contact you or had any talks with you?

Kaur: No one called me, and rather they stopped inviting me to key party meetings and all the activities of the Congress party in Punjab. Throughout the last year only one statement was doing the rounds — don’t give her the ticket. I have served the people of Punjab and will continue doing so. Tickets at this juncture don’t matter but our self-respect was deeply hurt.

Qn: Is this the only reason for leaving the Congress?

Kaur: The Congress lacks vision now. There is chaos and infighting amongst the party leaders. In this kind of situation how can you work for the betterment of Punjab.

Qn: What made you join the BJP?

Qn. The BJP has done remarkable work in every sphere. There now is a strong image of India at the global level. The Defence mechanism has enhanced for the country. The BJP is the only stable party while being growth-oriented having a dynamic vision for India. The BJP delivers on its promises and under such efficient leadership states also prosper.

Qn: How do you look at the farmers’ protest 2.0 and the annoyance of Jat leaders and farmer leaders with the BJP at the centre?

Kaur: Every election has its own challenges. Yes, the anger of the Jat leaders and farmers will definitely affect the outcome. But in my constituency, I have met the farmers who have been hurt or who have lost their family members. I have observed that people are aware, and they can see the truth and make wise choices.

Qn: How do you assess the AAP government in Punjab?

Kaur: It’s a failure at all levels. The law and order situation is worst and the youth has no future under the AAP as well as the Congress. The AAP is basically an advertisement party. It spends crores of rupees on advertisements but doing nothing at the ground level. There is zero development in Punjab. Farmers’ issues were handled very irresponsibly at Shambhu Border.

Qn: What is your Vision for Punjab?

Kaur: I envision a prosperous Punjab which is economically secure, and the youth has a stable future while farmers’ concerns are resolved. I foresee that the farmers should happily stay at homes and fields and not sit at state borders to protest for their rights.
