Haryana Congress Poll Loss Invites Spotlight On Hooda Family

By Raisina Correspondent

New Delhi, October 11: Haryana Congress leaders have come out in open against alleged fiefdom of former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Three days after the Haryana poll verdict, the spotlight is now dimming on alleged ‘EVM manipulation’.

The Congress top guns on Thursday assessed the poll loss in Haryana. The state Congress leaders were asked to stay away from the meeting.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi took part in the deliberations. Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharge had called the review meeting.

The meeting took place amid the Congress lodging official claims with the Election Commission about alleged “manipulation of the electronic voting machines (EVMs)”. The Congress claimed that the “EVMP battery strengths had been 99 per cent in constituencies where the party lost in the Haryana elections”.

The review meeting of the Congress per sources took stock of the reports that Hooda family sidelined the state party leaders. It was also learnt that Gandhi too expressed unhappiness in the party ranks lacking unity in the elections.

The Congress had gone into the Haryana Assembly elections with former Union Minister Kumari Selja making his displeasure public against the Hooda. She, however, rejected claims of rebellion.

Gandhi’s election rally in Assandh in the Karnal district has come for scrutiny among the party leaders. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won most of the Assembly seats in the Karnal district.

The rivals of Hoodas are accusing the former chief minister of “misguiding” Gandhi to visit the stronghold of the BJP in Karnal. Haryana Congress MLA Shamser Singh Gogi is giving bytes against the Hoodas.

Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his son Deepender Singh Hooda are being accused by their rivals of keeping away other influential state leaders. At the time of early celebrations while postal ballots were being counted, some slogans were also raised to appoint Deepender Singh Hooda as the next chief minister of Haryana.

The Congress lost the Haryana Assembly elections with a narrow difference of vote share. The Congress polled 0.90 per cent less vote share against the BJP.

The saffron outfit retained power in Haryana with own majority in the Assembly. The BJP won a total of 48 Assembly seats in Haryana. The Congress won 37 Assembly seats. The smaller parties were routed in the Haryana Assembly elections.
