New Delhi, February 18: Ministry of Railways has termed reports of sudden change of platform causing stampede at New Delhi station “misleading”. The Railways said that only the high-level committee is examining cause of the stampede.
“Certain media reports today quoted as RPF inquiry report on New Delhi railway station stampede, was wrong and misleading,” said the Ministry of Railways in a media statement. A section of the media reported that a “RPF probe found sudden change in platform for the Prayagraj-bound special train caused the stampede”. Eighteen passengers lost their lives in the stampede on Saturday night at the New Delhi station.
“A two-member high-level committee has already been set up by Northern Railway to investigate the incident. More than 100 individual statements are being collected by the committee,” added the Ministry of Railways in the media statement.
It also stated that “after receiving all such statements, the committee will conduct a thorough examination, including cross-questioning to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the incident”.
