Chinese ‘Ne Zha 2’ Triggers Tourism Tide: Report

New Delhi, February 23: The Chinese media in multiple reports claimed of the animated film ‘Ne Zha 2’ breaking all global records in collections. Reports also said that the animated film ‘Ne Zha 2’ triggered a tourism surge in China.
The Chinese state broadcaster CGTN in a report said that animated blockbuster ‘Ne Zha 2’ has triggered tourism wave. “The Chinese animated blockbuster ‘Ne Zha 2’ is now showing in over 60 theaters across China’s Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, breaking records with a global box office surpassing 13 billion yuan (approximately $1.8 billion),” said the broadcaster in a report.
The Chinese media are also claiming that the animated film ‘Ne Zha 2’ reduced ‘Captain America’s latest release to the status of a box office flop. Critics state that ‘Ne Zha 2’ and ‘Captain America’ whip up nationalism of China and the US respectively.
BBC in a report stated “Captain America: Brave New World, which is the fourth movie of the superhero franchise, has been caught in the crosshairs of nationalism”. London-based broadcaster quoted the Chinese enthusiasts speaking of the “lacklustre performance of Captain America new release”. “Of the $92m Captain America: Brave New World made outside the US, only $10.6m came from China,” said BBC, adding that China is Hollywood’s largest overseas market.

It quoted am online essay in China which titled “It’s not Captain America that’s dying, but America that’s dying”.
Global Times, a Chinese state media outlet, reported a surge in tourism to locations linked to the animated film. “Since the movie’s breakout success, visitor numbers to the Cuiping Mountain scenic area in Yibin, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province have surged, with the Nezha Palace, garnering increasing attention,” said the daily while quoting local officials. It stated that Nezha Palace, inspired by mythological stories, was built in 1991.
“Online searches for Ne Zha-related destinations such as Yibin and Jiangyou in Sichuan surged. Yibin experienced a 225 per cent rise while Jiangyou saw a 453 per cent rise,” the Chinese daily, quoted from the data of travel platform Fliggy.
It also stated that the success of ‘Ne Zha 2’ is driving a surge in tourism in Xixia in Central China’s Henan Province.
‘Ne Zha 2’ depicts a mythical boy who battles demons. The film has been newly crowned the world’s highest-grossing animated film, added BBC in its report. It also stated that “Ne Zha 2 fans are also keeping a close eye on critics of the movie, accusing them of being clout-chasing, paid haters”.
