Chhattisgarh eliminates 28 Naxalites after ‘fierce gunfight’
Dantewada gunfight in Chhattisgarh leaves 28 Naxalites dead

New Delhi, October 4: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday announced killing of 28 Naxalites in Dantewada after a fierce gunfight with the security forces. This is the biggest toll of Naxalites killed in a single day.
“In a fierce encounter between security forces and Naxalites in the border area of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts, reports suggest that 28 Naxalites have been killed. This major achievement by our brave soldiers is commendable. I salute their courage and indomitable spirit,” said Sai in a post on X.
The chief minister also said that “our fight to eliminate Naxalism will only end when we achieve complete success, and for this, our double-engine government is fully committed”. “The eradication of Naxalism from the state is our ultimate goal,” added the chief minister.

The security forces on Friday launched a major operation against the Maoists on the Narayanpur-Dantewada border. The security forces carried out the successful operations against the Maoists. Weapons, including AK-47s, were recovered from the killed Maoists.
Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region is known to be the hotbed of Left Wing Extremism (LWE). Reports said that the gunfight broke out at around 1 pm in the forest of Abhujmaad on the Narayanpur-Dantewada inter-district border. The state police said that the joint team of security personnel was out on anti-Naxal operation.
Reports also said that164 Naxalites had been killed by security forces in the Bastar region this year. The Bastar region comprises of seven districts, including Dantewada and Narayanpur.
Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah in the month of August had said that “naxalism in Chhattisgarh is in the last phase”. Addressing a press conference in Raipur in Chhattisgarh, Shah said: “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the fight against left-wing extremism is in its last phase. Now is the time to strike the final blow against LWE with a strong strategy and ruthless approach”.

Shah had also said that “left-wing extremism will be completely eradicated in the country before March 2026”.
“In 2022, for the first time in four decades, the number of deaths due to left-wing violence has come down below 100. The lowest number of LWE-related violent incidents have been reported between 2022 and 2024,” Shah had said in Raipur.
The highest number of deaths due to LWE-related violence was recorded in 2010 with 1005 deaths. “This number has come down to 138 in 2023. Filling the security vacuum has dealt a severe blow to LWE’s financing ecosystem,” added Shah.
