New Delhi, August 27: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren on Tuesday announced his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren unsuccessfully tried to stop Champai Soren from joining the BJP.
The former chief minister of Jharkhand met Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah late night on Monday. He was accompanied by the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“Today, Bangladeshi infiltration has become a big problem in Santhal Pargana, the holy land of Baba Tilka Manjhi and Sido-Kanhu. What can be more unfortunate than the fact that these infiltrators are occupying the lands of the descendants of those heroes who never accepted slavery of the foreign British in the fight for water, forest and land,” said Champai Soren in a long post on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

Champai Soren cited the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration in Jharkhand as his reason for joining the BJP. The saffron outfit has pitchforked the issue of the Bangladeshi immigration as the pivot for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jharkhand.
“Because of them, the dignity of our mothers, sisters and daughters who consider brave women like Phool-Jhano as their ideal is in danger. If these infiltrators, who are rapidly harming the tribals and natives economically and socially, are not stopped, then the existence of our society in Santhal Pargana will be in danger,” claimed Champai Soren.
He also stated that “in many other areas, including Pakur, Rajmahal, their number (infiltrators) has become more than that of tribals”. “Apart from politics, we have to make this issue a social movement, only then the existence of tribals will be saved,” added Champai Soren.

The JMM leaders have claimed that the incumbent chief minister tried to reach out to Champai Soren, but he was unsuccessful. The JMM leaders have accused Champai Soren of betraying the party.
“Only BJP seems serious on this issue and the rest of the parties are ignoring it for the sake of votes. Therefore, in this struggle to save the identity and existence of the tribals, I have decided to join the Bharatiya Janata Party,” said Champai Soren.
He appealed his followers to “cooperate in this new chapter of the struggle for the issues and rights of the tribals, natives, Dalits, backward, poor, laborers, farmers, women, youth and common people of Jharkhand”.
