New Delhi, September 20: In a bid to effectively engage with the youth and instill a sense of informed and responsible citizenship from an early age, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has unveiled an innovative initiative, a comic book titled “Chacha Chaudhary aur Chunavi Dangal.”
The launch event took place today at Nirvachan Sadan and was graced by the presence of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel.
The comic book, “Chacha Chaudhary aur Chunavi Dangal,” draws inspiration from the iconic Chacha Chaudhary comics, which have held a special place in the hearts of millions across India for decades.
CEC Rajiv Kumar, reminiscing about his own childhood, highlighted the enduring relevance of comics as an outreach medium in this digital age. He noted that these beloved comic characters, with their universal appeal and emphasis on values such as honesty, kindness, and compassion, offer a captivating platform for creatively conveying election-related information. This initiative aims to engage children and teenagers, fostering a sense of informed and responsible citizenship from an early age while allowing older generations to revisit their earlier days.
EC Anup Chandra Pandey emphasized the comic book’s role in presenting critical issues like ethical elections, participative democracy, and the influence of muscle and money power in a reader-friendly manner. The comic book is designed to impact both children and adults alike, promoting a deeper understanding of the electoral process.
The comic book serves as a versatile tool, addressing various aspects of voter awareness. Its primary objective is to encourage young eligible voters to register themselves, ensuring their active participation in upcoming elections. Within its pages, Chacha Chaudhary plays a pivotal role in introducing readers to various apps developed by the Election Commission of India, such as cVigil and KYC, empowering them to become active and informed participants in the electoral process. Moreover, the comic strongly emphasizes the significance of women’s participation in elections, aligning with the ECI’s ongoing efforts to increase women’s representation in the political sphere.
Chacha Chaudhary’s popularity extends far beyond urban centers, resonating deeply in small towns and villages across India. Created by the renowned Cartoonist late Pran Kumar Sharma in 1960, this beloved character has transcended generations and continues to capture the imagination of readers of all ages. The “Chacha Chaudhary aur Chunavi Dangal” initiative leverages this emotional connection to nostalgia, providing a comprehensive approach to voter awareness.
This unique comic book is a collaborative effort between the Election Commission of India and Pran Comics, designed to inspire the youth to enroll and actively participate in the festival of democracy. It features iconic cartoon characters such as Chacha Chaudhary, Sabu, and Billoo, brought to life by the late Pran Kumar Sharma.
With its engaging narrative and creative storytelling, “Chacha Chaudhary aur Chunavi Dangal” is poised to become a valuable tool in the ECI’s mission to foster a more informed and responsible citizenry, ensuring that the voice of every eligible voter is heard in India’s democratic process.
