DHOLPUR, Rajasthan | July 26, 2025 — In an extraordinary act of courage, a 10-year-old boy named Ajay from Rajasthan’s Dholpur district has become a local hero after reports emerged that he saved his father from a crocodile attack with his bare hands.

According to regional newspapers Hindustan and Rajasthan Patrika, the incident took place when Ajay and his father went to the river near their village to collect water. While his father was filling the containers, a crocodile suddenly lunged from the water and latched onto his leg, pulling him toward the river.

Without any hesitation, young Ajay leapt into action. Eyewitnesses told the local press that the boy picked up a stick and started hitting the reptile repeatedly, screaming for help. His quick thinking and relentless blows forced the crocodile to loosen its grip, allowing his father to escape.

Villagers arrived at the scene soon after and helped pull both father and son to safety. The father reportedly sustained injuries but is recovering, while Ajay escaped unharmed.

The heroic act has drawn widespread admiration across the state, with many hailing the boy’s courage and presence of mind as nothing short of miraculous. Local leaders and residents are now calling for Ajay to be formally recognized for his bravery.

Authorities have issued a renewed warning for residents to remain cautious near riverbanks, especially during the monsoon season, when crocodile sightings are known to increase in the Chambal region.

Rajasthan Patrika in a report said: “Veerbhan, 35, a resident of Jharnapura Harlalpur, had gone to the river on Friday afternoon along with his son Ajay and daughter Kiran, after finishing work in the fields.” As soon as Veerbhan stepped into the river and dipped a bottle into the water, a crocodile hidden beneath the surface suddenly attacked, grabbing hold of his right leg and attempting to drag him into the river, added the daily.

“Startled by the sudden assault, Veerbhan began shouting for help in a desperate attempt to save his life. Hearing their father’s screams, 10-year-old Ajay and his sister Kiran, who were standing on the riverbank, also began crying out for help. But instead of panicking, Ajay showed immense courage,” said Rajasthan Patrika in its report.

Ajay picked up a thick babool tree stick lying near the river and jumped straight into the water, added the report. “He began striking the crocodile repeatedly with the stick. Faced with Ajay’s fearless blows and determination, the crocodile finally let go and retreated,” said the daily in its report.
