BJP braces for four Assembly elections amid internal rumblings

New Delhi, June 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday appointed election in-charges for the upcoming Assembly elections. Besides Haryana, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand, the BJP on Monday appointed poll in-charges for Jammu and Kashmir also.
The BJP is gearing up to face four Assembly elections amid internal rumblings in the party ranks. In the aftermath of the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP ranks are debating the role of the party leadership.
The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is also likely to go to the Assembly elections in the next three months. The Supreme Court in the past had grilled the Centre for not holding the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The last Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in December, 2014. The upcoming Assembly elections will be first after the abrogation of Article 370, and also the subsequent delimitation of the constituencies.
The BJP on Monday appointed Union Minister G. Kishen Reddy as the election in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP didn’t field any candidate in the Lok Sabha elections from three of the Lok Sabha seats in the Kashmir valley.
The BJP appointed Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan as election in-charge for Jharkhand. The BJP could win nine Lok Sabha seats out of 14 in Jharkhand.
The BJP has also appointed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as deputy of Chouhan to look after the poll preparations of Jharkhand.

The BJP is hoping to wrest power in Jharkhand. But the arrest of Hemant Soren, the former chief minister of Jharkhand, by the Enforcement Directorate appears to have infused new leash of life in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
The BJP will be facing uphill tasks in Maharashtra and Haryana. The stocks of the saffron outfit took sever beatings in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections.

The surge in the prospects of the Congress in Haryana and Maharashtra poses serious challenge to the BJP to retain power in the two states.
The BJP gave task to Union Ministers Bhupender Yadav and Aswini Vaishnaw to see through the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Yadav had also overseen the last Assembly elections in Maharashtra.
The surge of the Congress in Maharashtra taken the wind out of the sails of the BJP in the state. The BJP is facing twin challenges from farmers’ anger and Maratha reservation stir in Maharashtra.

Besides, the BJP is also facing heat within the ruling alliance in Maharashtra with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) sulking for the raw deal given to the party in the Lok Sabha elections.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will helm the BJP’s poll charges in Haryana. Already facing the heat for the alleged irregularities in the undergraduate NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test), Pradhan will lead the BJP against the surging Congress in Haryana.
The BJP could win only five of the total 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. The BJP had won all the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 general elections.
