New Delhi, March 7: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday inducted former Kerala Congress leader Padmaja Venugopal in the party ranks. She is the daughter of former Chief Minister of Kerala and veteran Congress leader K. Karunakaran.
The BJP has already fielded Anil Antony from the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha constituency. He is the son of the veteran Congress leader AK Antony who has now quit active politics. A few weeks ago, the BJP had inducted in the party ranks another visible face of the Congress, Milind Deora, in Maharashtra.
Padmaja Venugopal joined the BJP in the presence of Rajya Sabha Member MP Prakash Javdekar. On the occasion, Javdekar said: “There is going to be a significant transformation in Kerala due to the impactful initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s.” He underscored the party’s commitment to providing respect, responsibility, and significant roles to its members. Javdekar claimed that the BJP is poised to make history in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP may field her in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The BJP is aiming to open an account from Kerala in the Lok Sabha. The BJP also has fielded Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat. The BJP is clearly eying the Congress leadership pool in Kerala to spearhead the party’s footprints in the state where the saffron outfit has been struggling despite significant presence of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS).
Venugopal stated that she has decided to continue her political journey with the BJP. She expressed her admiration for the development work undertaken by the Prime Minister in Kerala and the country. Padmaja cited dissatisfaction with the lack of responsiveness from the Congress to complaints and failure to engage with her despite multiple attempts.
Venugopal noted her late father, K. Karunakaran, had a similar experience. She highlighted the absence of leadership in the Congress party and her unsuccessful attempts to meet Sonia Gandhi. Venugopal emphasized that her decision to join the BJP was influenced by the strong leadership of the Prime Minister.
