BJP Works with Booth Dashboard to Fill Gaps with AAP

By Manish Anand

New Delhi, January 4: Five of the total eight victorious candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Delhi Assembly elections had polled more than 50 per cent votes in 2020. Three others had polled closer to 50 per cent vote share in 2020 polls.

The BJP in Delhi has been studying polling booths where the party narrowly lost to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The city unit of the BJP has classified in the polling booths in categories where the party lost with less than 50 to 250 votes.

Delhi Poll Date in Sight as Modi Goes for Projects’ Unveiling

“For months, we have been working on polling booths where the BJP narrowly lost to the AAP. Appropriate plan of action has been put in place to bridge the gaps with the AAP at such polling booths,” said a senior BJP functionary.

The BJP leaders were taken aback after they found out during data crunching that the people hailing from Gujarat have not been voting for the party in a few specific areas in the national capital. “In Gujarat, the BJP wins hands down. But the people with Gujarat origin vote differently in Delhi,” said the BJP functionary.

For instance, the BJP lost to the AAP in wards in Janakpuri area where there is sizable population of the people from Gujarat. “In four wards in the Janakpuri area, the voters with Gujarati background have mostly been voting for the AAP. The BJP hardly gets their votes. This is happening for last three consecutive Assembly elections in the national capital,” said the BJP leader.

Security Pops as Top Issue in BJP’s Outreach in Delhi

The AAP had polled over 53 per cent votes in the 2020 Assembly elections to win 62 seats. The BJP had won eight Assembly seats in the 2020 polls.

“The Congress polled as low as 600 votes in Assembly constituencies in the 2020 polls. The decimation of the Congress has been the key reason that the winning candidates of the BJP need to poll closer to 50 per cent votes in the national capital,” said a BJP strategist.

The BJP has deployed key influencers to work at polling booths where the party lost to the AAP narrowly. “The people have been put on task who have track record to influence the voters to swing the outcome at such polling booths. Besides, the outreach has also been taking place for the last six months to target specific group of the people,” added the BJP strategist.
