New Delhi, January 7: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears buoyed over by rising interests from political leaders and others to join the saffron outfit. The BJP and other political parties often showcase the new entrants joining their ranks ahead of the elections to build favourable perceptions among the people while to hog the media headlines.
The BJP as per a senior party functionary is currently flooded with the applications for joining the saffron organization. As many as 750 applications are currently pending before the BJP leadership from the prospective new entrants in the ranks of the saffron outfit.
In the recent elections, the scale of the new entrants also has become a parameter to weight the prospects of the party in the polls. The Congress has senty shockwaves in the BJP camp by unleashing a carpet bombing by a largescale induction of the party leaders from the ranks of the Bharath Rashtra Samithi in Telangana just a month ahead of the Assembly elections. While the BJP had been nursing high hopes from Telangana, the Congress staged a comeback to stun the saffron outfit. The Congress is now seeking to replicate the Telangana experiment in Andhra Pradesh where also the BJP remains an outfit on the fringe of the state politics.
A senior BJP functionary said that the party leaders have decided that there “will be a screening committee in the central party and similar committees in the states to screen the new applications who wish to join the party”. The party functionary stressed that the screening committee has been mandated to undertake in-depth checks on the backgrounds of the applicants before granting approvals.
The BJP functionary stated that “there are as many as 750 applications pending before the party from all across the country”. He added that the BJP committees in the states are examining their past records to make sure that the intention is right along with the issue of the new joiners being the right fit for the organization.
The BJP functionary also stated that the new measure will be applicable on the political leaders irrespective of their stature who will be joining the organization from the rival parties. The BJP is banking on imports from other parties for rapid rise. The BJP’s leading lights in several states such as Punjab, Assam, and Tripura now consist of the pool imported from other parties.
The high profile imports of the BJP from the Congress include the likes of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Punjab unit chief Sunil Jakhar, as well as the former state chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
