BJP Fact-Finding Team to Reach on November 30 after Poll Loss

By Amit Kumar

Ranchi, November 26: The Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh is rushing to Ranchi to probe the poll defeats in the Jharkhand Assembly elections. The Central BJP leaders will be summoning the Jharkhand unit party leaders for stock-taking exercise.

“Santhosh has called a meeting of all the state leaders, including district presidents, on November 30. The meeting will take stock of reasons behind the humiliating loss of the BJP in the Jharkhand Assembly elections,” said a senior Jharkhand unit BJP leader.

The core committee of the Jharkhand unit of the BJP has also been asked to come to New Delhi on December 4 for a meeting with the central leadership of the party. “The BJP will examine the causes for the loss in the Jharkhand Assembly elections threadbare. Efforts will be to fix accountability for the poll loss,” added the BJP functionary.

The BJP hit the worst tally for several years in the Jharkhand Assembly by winning just 21 Assembly seats. The BJP leaders have further been embarrassed with the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Mocrha (JMM) bagging the best ever performance by winning 34 Assembly seats.

The highest ever tally for any political party is 37 Assembly seats won by the BJP in the 2014 state elections. No political party in Jharkhand in last two decades has even won a majority of own in the state Assembly.

“What is worrisome is the fact that Brand Modi has been negatively impacted in Jharkhand elections adversely. The prime minister intensively campaigned in Jharkhand. But the poll outcome showed that he hardly made any impact in the outcome of the polls,” said a senior BJP functionary.

Modi had held six rallies. Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan was the party’s election in-charge for Jharkhand. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was the co-election in-charge for Jharkhand.

“The poll narrative of the BJP in Jharkhand was detached from the ground realities. The BJP workers are sending their own reports to the central party leaders,” added the party functionary.

The Jharkhand BJP leaders also claimed that the central leadership is miffed with the incumbent office bearers in Ranchi. “We can expect some frank exchange of views on the poll loss in Jharkhand. There are hints that some of the party leaders may be too frank in sharing their assessments,” added the BJP functionary.
