New Delhi, February 20: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears to have dazzled the political space with a mind game to drum up the prospects of Prime Minister Narendra Modi bagging a third straight mandate being a fait accompli. Modi also told the national convention of the BJP at Bharat Mandapam that the prime minister’s office already has several invitations for bilateral foreign visits in immediate months after the Lok Sabha elections.
Modi has been able to effortlessly pass the routine official invitations to an office of the prime minister to lend weight to his slogan of ‘aayega to Modi hi’. The ranks and files of the Opposition also appear to be eating out of the hands of Modi about the outcome of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has kept the rumour mills buzzing with his next move. He is being rumoured to join the BJP with his supporters. His son, Nakul Nath, was the lone Congress leader who had won a Lok Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh. Lending fodder to the rumour mills, father and son duo have been touring the parliamentary constituency of Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh.
A section of the BJP leaders is awe-struck at the party’s appetite for absorbing the Congress leaders. Until a few months ago, the BJP leaders loathed Kamal Nath when he was the CM face of the Congress for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections. Former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan reminded the people on the election trail about the ‘dark’ state full of potholed-roads. Also, a section of the BJP leaders also wonders on ways the party would counter claims that Kamal Nath belonged to that Sanjay Gandhi club which had alleged links to the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.
With former Congress president Rahul Gandhi seen in the firm grip of the Left-leaning ideas, the Congress appears to be facing a fresh round of internal stress. There are suggestions that a close coterie around Gandhi is calling shots in the party. The decision of the Congress leaders to skip the consecration ceremony of the Ram Lalla idol in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh has been attributed to the close coterie around Gandhi. The likes of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Sukhwinder Singh Sukkhu, and others broke ranks with the party to strike discordant notes with the party leadership on the consecration ceremony.
