New Delhi, January 10, 2026 — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated to hold election for the post of the party president at the earliest. Informed sources said that the BJP is bracing up to hold the crucial election this month ahead of the commencement of the Budget session of parliament.
The election for the post of the BJP president will formalise the appointment of working president Nitin Nabin. Senior BJP leaders, speaking to The Raisina Hills on condition of anonymity, said that the “poll may be held even on January 20.”
“Preparations are on full swings. Poll will be held at earliest. The exercise may be followed by the summoning of the National Council meeting of the BJP,” a senior BJP functionary told The Raisina Hills.
The BJP by appointing Nitin Nabin as the working president has already made it clear that he would be the sole candidate in the elections which will pave way for his election unopposed. The BJP in the past has elected party presidents without any contest.
“The completion of the election exercise will also clear the way for recasting the national organisational office bearers’ team. Nitin Nabin will pick up a new team consisting of young faces, mostly drawn from states as general secretaries and secretaries,” another BJP functionary told The Raisina Hills.
With the Budget session commencing from January 28, the BJP aims to wrap up organisational elections this month. The BJP is yet to announce new presidents in a few more states. Nabin has been touring poll-bound states after his appointment as the working president of the party.
“Nabin in consultation with senior leadership will pick up party leaders from states who have experience in organisational works. The new national team of the BJP may mostly be drawn from the 40 years age group,” said the BJP functionary.
