New Delhi, April 11: The washout of the Budget session appears to have set off an early start to the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign, as Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah on Tuesday gave a clarion call to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers for ‘abki bar, phir 300 par (this time, past 300 again)’.

The BJP had strategized to work on weak polling booths in the Lok Sabha seats where the party had lost elections in 2019 more than six months ago. The BJP national general secretaries are taking stock on a regular basis for the poll preparations of the 2024 general elections.

By stepping up confrontation with Congress in particular and the Opposition in general during the just concluded Budget session, the BJP has seemingly pressed accelerator for the 2024 general elections. With the government having paused policy making exercise, the ruling dispensation at the Centre appears to have moved into full election gear.

“The 2024 election is approaching, and the BJP will 12 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam. Modi ji will once more form the third government with full majority with over 300 seats,” said Shah, while addressing the BJP workers in Dibrugarh, Assam on Tuesday.

The BJP had bagged 303 Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 general elections, improving its tally from 2014 substantially, on the back of a clean sweep in its core catchment areas consisting of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, North-eastern states and Uttar Pradesh, besides making impressive gains in Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, and Haryana.

The BJP’s march to 300 plus seats in the 2019 general elections was achieved at the expense of Congress, which shrank significantly. The BJP and Congress once more square off in over 200 Lok Sabha seats in near direct elections. The saffron outfit’s all out attack of former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is seen as part of the strategy to further decimate the main Opposition party in the North, Central and western states to gain a scale of victory in the 2024 polls.

While the BJP may stay the course to sweep the Northeastern states, the saffron outfit is making a big push in southern states such as Telangana and Kerala as part of the expansion exercise, while the party leaders admit that the push is part of future electoral gains plan.
