New Delhi, June 14: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday held a marathon meeting at the residence of the Union Minister Giriraj Singh to brainstorm over strategies to counter the Opposition meeting on June 23 in Patna.

The core group meeting of the Bihar unit of the saffron outfit discussed short term and medium term strategies – to divert national attention from the Opposition meeting and make a dent in the social base of the ruling Mahagathbandhan in the state. Singh hosted the meeting at his residence which was attended by several senior party leaders.

“The immediate task on hand is to divert the national attention from the June 23 meeting. Thus, it was on the agenda of the discussion and several possibilities were discussed to hold to hold a grand programme on the same day in Patna to commemorate the nine years of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre,” said an informed source.

The Bihar BJP core group meeting also discussed organisational issues, including ways to strengthen the party in the state as the saffron outfit in all possibilities would contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in alliance with smaller outfits. The BJP had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the Assembly polls in 2020 in alliance with the Janata Dal (United). The JD (U) is now heading the Mahagathbandhan alliance in Bihar consisting of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Congress, the Left parties and others.

“The Opposition unity meeting being held in Patna is also aimed at the politics of the state, and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be using the opportunity to build his image among the people in Bihar. This will be an opportunity for him to repair his image which took severe beatings in the recent years which also saw the JD (U) slipping to the third position in the 2020 Assembly elections,” added another informed source.

Union Minister for Home Affairs and the former BJP chief Amit Shah has visited Bihar on a few occasions. He is also learnt to be holding key strategy meetings to deal with the challenges posed by the grand alliance in Bihar.

Incidentally, the BJP is growing to the apparent challenge of the prospects of the consolidation of the Muslim and Yadav vote base along with the OBCs, EBCs and others in favour of the grand alliance.
