BJP fields T. Raja Singh in Telangana; Nupur Sharma waits for comeback

New Delhi, October 22: The BJP has fielded controversial party leader T. Raja Singh for the Telangana Assembly election. The BJP Central Disciplinary Committee on Sunday revoked the suspension of T. Raja Singh, which was suspended for his alleged remarks against Prophet Mohammad. While Singh’s comeback in the BJP was widely expected ahead of the Telangana Assembly elections, the BJP circle is also abuzz that the party’s former controversial leader Nupur Sharma may also soon return in the party fold.
“Basis your reply, the committee has decided to revoke your suspension forthwith,” wrote Om Pathak, member secretary of the disciplinary panel, in a letter to Singh. The BJP is likely to unveil its list of candidates for the Telangana Assembly election soon.
Singh in his reply to the disciplinary committee had claimed that he had only imitated Munnawar Faruqui on the basis of contents available on “Google” and he meant no offence to any gods or religion or individuals. He had also stated that he had been arrested by the police as part of the politics of appeasement of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) dispensation.
Even while Singh was suspended from the BJP, he had vowed not to leave the party while carrying out ‘Yatras’ in Hyderabad. The BJP is seemingly aiming to bank on Singh’s polarizing influence to make inroads in the vote base of the TRS and wean away the support base of the Congress.
While Singh is formally back in the BJP, Nupur Sharma, suspended by the BJP after her alleged on air remark against Prophet Mohammad during a television discussion, has begun showing up in social circles. Heavily guarded following threats on her life, Sharma has recently been seen in a few of the social functions in the national capital. The ranks of the Delhi unit of the BJP are abuzz with anticipation that Sharma would make a comeback in the BJP at a suitable time for maximizing political gains from her in the national capital.
“Nupur Sharma will not only return to active politics, but she will also become face of the BJP in Delhi. It’s only a matter of timing. She has begun showing up and gradually she will be seen more in public even while security risks hinder her movements,” said a senior BJP leader in the Delhi unit of the party.
