BJP backs JP Nadda amid stressed relations with RSS
BJP top brass backs JP Nadda despite ‘unhappy’ RSS
By Our Special Correspondent
New Delhi, June 24: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Jagat Prakash Nadda on Monday became the leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha. Nadda is also set to stay put in his position as the chief of the saffron outfit for at least six more months.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had included Nadda in his Cabinet. Nadda returned to the Council of Ministers to take charge of the Ministry of Health and Family welfare.
The top brass of the BJP, widely interpreted for Modi and Amit Shah duo, is seen backing Nadda. This is despite the fact that a number of the BJP leaders blame Nadda for the “strained relations” with the Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS).

The RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in his speech in Nagpur during a training programme had dropped enough hints of the simmering tension with the political offshoot of the organisation. Afterwards, the RSS communication department chief Sunil Ambekar had trashed a media report which had claimed that Bhagwat had made light of Nadda’s interview to a daily in which he had spoken of the relations between the two organisations.
Nadda in an interview to a daily had asserted that the BJP was now strong enough to contest elections on its own unlike the past when the party needed the support of the RSS.

The BJP’s poll shocker in the form of a massive loss in key states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan had also been attributed to simmering tension with the RSS. Yet, the BJP top brass is seen backing Nadda.
The BJP chief will be the face of the government in the Rajya Sabha. Union Minister Piyush Goyal had held the position previously.
Late Arun Jaitely had been the BJP face in the Rajya Sabha for several years. He was also the leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha during the first term of the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

On Nadda’s appointment as the leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, the BJP leaders counted his qualities such as his being Health Minister in the Modi Cabinet, working in the government and the organization, also being at ease with Hindi and English languages.
“Nadda is most suitable to lead the BJP in the Rajya Sabha and counter the attacks of the Opposition,” the BJP leaders asserted. Goyal has been elected as member of the Lok Sabha from the Mumbai North parliamentary constituency.

While Nadda’s term as the BJP chief is ending on June 30, there is a possibility that he can hold this post till a new president is elected. The process of election for the new president of the BJP has not yet started.
In view of the parliament session, the meeting of the party’s National Executive is likely to be held by the end of July. Not only this, Assembly elections are to be held in Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Haryana at the end of this year.
