Billionaires weigh Donald Trump as Joe Biden quits race
Elon Musk & Vinod Khosla debate sets up Trump versus Harris
By Manish Anand
New Delhi, July 22: The US president, Joe Biden, quit the November presidential election after internal data in his party showed his chances collapsing even in Democrat’s stronghold states. Biden was trailing by miles in swing states.
Barring former US president Barack Obama, Democrats are now rushing to endorse the incumbent vice president, Kamala Harris, to run against the Republican nominee, Donald Trump. Former US president Bill Clinton is raising the stock of Harris with his support.
Harris will be a first black woman to run in the presidential election. She was leading in surveys against Trump until the assassination bid against the former US president.
While Trump versus Harris race warms up, two billionaires are setting up the backdrop to the November election. The two are also setting the narrative for the poll.

Billionaire Elon Musk is aggressively funding the Trump campaign. He is backing Trump for “individual freedom”, “less government control”, and “merit-based bureaucracy”.
The Indian origin billionaire, Vinod Khosla, has drawn the possible contours for Harris campaign against Trump. Khosla cannot support Trump for his “moral perversion”, “climate change escapism”, and “abandoning the American moral leadership of the world”.
On X, formerly Twitter, Musk and Khosla debated their positions on Trump and Khosla. After a spirited exchange, both held their grounds and failed to change the other.
“Hard for me to support someone with no values, (who) lies, (who) cheats, (who) rapes, (who) demeans women, (who) hates immigrants like me. He may cut my taxes or reduce some regulation but that is no reason to accept depravity in his personal values,” Khosla posted on X, while Musk urged him to back the Republican nominee.

Khosla further asked, “Do you want President who will set back climate by a decade in his first year? Do you want his example for your kids as values?”
Musk ducked posers of Khosla, claiming that Trump is wrongly portrayed by the media. “He doesn’t hate you. In fact, I think he likes you. Meet him and find out for yourself,” Musk stated on the anti-immigrant narrative of Trump.
Musk further stated, how many times have you read something in the media where you know the real story, but what they printed was diabolically false? “Well, it’s way worse in politics, which is a blood sport,” added the tech-billionaire, who also owns X.
Khosla is a legendary donor of educational institutions, and an IIT Delhi graduate. He is backing Democrats against Trump.
Several of the billionaires in the US have come out in support of Trump. Musk is finding over $45 million a month in Trump’s campaign.

“I’m not suggesting that Trump is without flaws, however we need an administration that is more likely to be meritocratic and promote individual freedoms over the heavy hand of government,” Musk further argued to win over Khosla.
But the India-born billionaire wasn’t convinced. “Agree on not trusting media. Agree on meritocratic and promote individual freedoms. But abandon climate and ‘drill baby drill’? Be MAGA and abandon NATO and American leadership and moral authority,” asked Khosla.
MAGA (Make America Great Again) is Trump’s signature poll campaign. It has been now given a booster with ‘Make America Safe Again (MASA)’.
