Tejashwi Yadav Slams Nitish Kumar Over Alleged Nepotism in Commission Appointments
By AMIT KUMAR
PATNA, June 16, 2025 – Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav launched a scathing attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing him of promoting nepotism and favouritism in recent appointments to various state commissions, including the Women’s Commission.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Yadav sarcastically urged the Chief Minister to formally establish a “Jamai Commission” (Commission for Sons-in-law), citing what he termed as a growing trend of family members of influential politicians being appointed to key posts.
“Retired, not tired, officers are running Bihar today,” Yadav remarked, taking a swipe at the state bureaucracy. His attacks on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came with serious charges of family members being promoted in the state in appointments in commissions.
“Here, offer prayers and get postings. Public representatives are not being heard. Bihar is a poor state where officers are looting public money and indulging in corruption. Even central agencies like ED and CBI are sitting idle. If an honest investigation is conducted, no one will be spared,” Yadav alleged.
Tejashwi Yadav specifically highlighted the appointment of close relatives of several senior politicians. “Ram Vilas Paswan’s son-in-law has been given a position, Jitan Ram Manjhi’s son-in-law has been appointed, and Ashok Chaudhary’s son-in-law has also secured a post,” he said, accusing the government of systematically favouring the relatives of political heavyweights.
Yadav was particularly critical of the appointment of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar’s wife as a member of the Bihar Women’s Commission. “They have appointed Deepak Kumar’s wife as an education expert in the Women’s Commission. Was there no other qualified educationist available?” he questioned.
He also alleged irregularities in the notification process, claiming that attempts were made to conceal her identity. “Instead of mentioning her husband’s name, she listed her father’s name in the official notification. This is nothing but manipulation,” Yadav charged.
Raising broader concerns, Yadav accused Nitish Kumar of being either unaware or deliberately allowing such appointments. “The Chief Minister must clarify whether he is unaware of these actions or is being made to act in this manner. Those who are against Dalits and minorities have now occupied the secretariat,” he said.
The RJD leader also took a dig at the BJP, which shares power with Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) in the state. “BJP workers are still waiting for their turn to get positions. Even loyal workers are being sidelined. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks about ending dynasty politics during his visits here, in reality, the spoils are being quietly shared among a few families,” Yadav alleged.
Tejashwi’s remarks come amidst growing political heat over appointments in various state commissions, which the opposition claims are being used as a tool for political patronage and family favouritism under the Nitish Kumar government. Bihar is headed for Assembly elections later this year.
