Patna, November 19, 2025 — Grand preparations are underway at historic Gandhi Maidan for the 10th swearing in ceremony of Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister of Bihar. The Janata Dal (United) is stoking emotional quotients among followers by spotlighting Kumar’s mega electoral win in the just concluded Assembly elections.
Large cutouts of Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been sourced to make a visual statement in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked Chief Ministers of the party ruled states to attend the oath taking ceremony.
Meetings of the legislature parties of the JD (U) and the BJP lacked any suspense. The JD (U) legislative party elected Kumar as leaders. The BJP legislative party elected Samrat Chudhary as leader and Vijay Sinha as his deputy. That means the two BJP leaders will retain their posts of deputy CMs.
The BJP is likely to take the crucial post of the Speaker of the Bihar Assembly. The post will hold significance in the event any dramatic turn unravels in Bihar politics in which the MLAs become the arbiter.
Nand Kishore Yadav of the BJP had held the post of the Bihar Assembly Speaker in the last tenure of the House. The BJP had denied party nomination to Yadav for the Assembly elections. The BJP is likely to pick either a Yadav or a Dalit face for the post of the Speaker of the Bihar Assembly as part of efforts to strike a caste balance in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the oath taking ceremony in Bihar on Thursday. The NDA had sought mandate in the name of Modi and Kumar in the Assembly elections.
Sources said that there may not be big surprises in names of ministers from the ranks of the JD (U) and the BJP. They argued that the Bihar mandate is for “continuity.”
