JD (U) leaders Ask Students to Wait for Govt Decision
By Amit Kumar
Patna, December 31: Bihar Minister Nitish Mishra on Tuesday told reporters that the students should wait for the outcome of their meeting with the chief secretary of the state Amrit Lal Meena. The Janta Dal (United) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar also dropped hints of at the state government buying peace with the protesting students.
Kumar asked, “who will now take credit. Will it be Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav or Prashant Kishor. Now, there will be fight among the Opposition leaders for taking credit.” Kumar was speaking to reporters on Tuesday in the backdrop of the ongoing agitation of the students.
Reports said that Kishor-led Jan Suraj Party leader and ex-IPS officer RK Mishra arranged a meeting of the students’ leaders with the chief secretary of Bihar. The meeting took place in the backdrop of Kishor throwing his weight behind the agitating students who have been protesting against the BPSC.
Neeraj Kumar’s taunt on “who will take credit” has brought hopes among the students that the Bihar government may finally intervene. The students have been protesting in the Gardanibagh area in Patna. They have been demanding the cancellation of the BPSC prelims examination which had been held on December 18.
The students told the chief secretary that the decision of the BPSC to hold re-examination for 18,000 candidates is also violative of the right to equality. They claim that about 3.28 lakh students had appeared for the BPSC prelims examinations.
“The meeting with the chief secretary has given hopes among the students that the state government will finally take a decision in favour of the protestors. The remarks of the JD (U) leaders in which they are teasing the likes of Kishor, Pappu Yadav and also Tejashwi Yadav on credit taking game have also enthused students of positive developments in the agitation,” said one student activist.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is also currently in New Delhi. He is meeting the top brass of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP is enlisting the support of the alliance partners for cohesive strategy against the Opposition. Sources said that the BJP is not pleased with the ongoing protests of the students in Patna and want the state government to amicably resolve the issue.
Sources said that the BJP is advising the JD (U) to not allow the Opposition to gain political dividends from the students’ protests in Patna. “There is a system in place. The students should wait for the outcome of their meeting with the chief secretary,” added Mishra.
