Anand Mishra says recent encounters signal zero tolerance for crime as Bihar Police intensifies crackdown across districts

Patna, May 3, 2026 — A fresh police encounter in Siwan has intensified the debate around law-and-order enforcement in Bihar, with Anand Mishra strongly defending the state’s ongoing crackdown on crime.

Reacting to the recent developments, Mishra said, “Bihar is changing, and this transformation reflects the strengthening of the rule of law.” His remarks come amid a series of police encounters targeting alleged criminals across districts including Bhagalpur, Motihari, Begusarai, and Khagaria.

According to Mishra, several notorious offenders—facing serious charges such as murder, terror, and organized crime—have been neutralised in recent operations. He cited cases like Sonu Yadav alias Chhotu Yadav in Siwan and Ramdhani Yadav in Bhagalpur, among others, as examples of hardened criminals who, he claimed, chose confrontation over surrender.

“Whenever police challenged them, instead of surrendering, they attempted to attack. In such situations, the police are left with no option but to act within the legal framework, Mishra said, drawing from his own experience as a former IPS officer. He released his video message on Sunday.

He argued that for years, criminals exploited systemic weaknesses, delayed legal processes, and political loopholes, which emboldened them. “That scenario is now changing. The message is clear: no one is above the law,” he added.

Mishra emphasized that the crackdown is not targeted at any caste, religion, or region. “This fight is only against crime. A criminal has only one identity—that he is a criminal,” he said, underlining the need for strict action to ensure public safety.

He further warned that such offenders pose a threat to ordinary citizens. “They can take anyone’s life—yours, mine, or our families’—for power and personal gain. That is why strict action is not just necessary, but inevitable.”

Praising the Bihar Police, Mishra lauded their “courageous action” and also credited the political leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary for demonstrating firm resolve. “It is now evident that there will be no leniency towards crime,” he said.

Framing Bihar as a land of “knowledge, discipline, and pride,” Mishra called for restoring its legacy through strong governance. “We are building a developed, safe, and confident Bihar. Criminal elements have no place in this journey,” he asserted.

The recent encounters have sparked both support and concern, with questions being raised overdue process and police accountability. However, the state government maintains that its priority remains ensuring law and order.
