Shamsud-Din Jabbar Not Solely Responsible for New Orleans Attack, says FBI

By Raisina Correspondent

New Delhi, January 2: The FBI has said that the former US military person Shamsud-Din Jabbar wasn’t solely responsible for the New Orleans car crash attack. The US President Joe Biden in his address to the nation said that Jabbar was inspired by the Daesh, an Islamist Jihadi group with bases in the Middle East.

“We don’t believe that Shamsud-Din Jabbar was solely responsible for the New Orleans car crash attack,” the FBI said after the incident which is being called a terror attack by security experts.

Biden in his address asked the people not to jump to the conclusion. Jabbar, 42, was an ex-army person. He hailed from Texas.

“I have directed a multi-agency probe into the New Orleans incident,” Biden said in his address to the nation. The car was ploughed into a crowd early Wednesday morning in the French colony that had been celebrating the dawn of the new-year.

Eyewitness accounts said that the people were flung into the air, leaving a macabre scene on the street. They also asserted that the driver was determined to cause the maximum casualty.

The local police per media reports found multiple improvised explosives in the truck driven by the Daesh-inspired former US military person. The police found two pipe bombs concealed within coolers. They had been wired for remote detonation, said the police.

The scope of remote detonation contrasts Biden’s claims of Jabbar posting violent social media contents with intent for killing. The police findings also reject suggestions that the New Orleans car crash incident was an act of killing for thrill on the part of Daesh-indoctrinated Jabbar, said security experts.

The police shot down Jabbar after he exited the truck. He was killed in a retaliatory fire. The FBI has also said that the agency is probing the New Orleans attack as a terrorist. “We do not believe the driver acted alone. We have found guns and a Daesh flag on the truck,” said the FBI.

The local authorities are also searching for more clues in the car crash incident. “This is not just an act of terrorism. This is evil,” Anne Kirkpatrick, the New Orleans Police Superintendent, told reporters.  Kirkpatrick stated that Jabbar overwhelmed safety measures for pedestrians as he was “hell-bent on creating the carnage”.
