Bathroom killer takes heavy toll of unsuspecting victims

New Delhi, January 27: People are now losing their lives in bathrooms. Arbaaz Khan was just 23 years old. His parents were alarmed after he didn’t come out of the bathroom after a long time.

His father, Aziz Ahmed, knocked at the door of the bathroom, but there was no response. Soon worries turned into alarms, and Aziz Ahmed broke the bathroom door to find his son lying unconscious. He rushed his son to the hospital. But it was too late. His son was declared dead on arrival by the hospital in Bikaner in Rajasthan.

The cause of the death was found to be suffocation in the bathroom because of the gas leaks from geyser. Incidents are now commonplace about the people losing lives in bathrooms. Earlier, bathrooms were seen to be risky places for the elderlies who mostly sustained injuries, sometimes grievous, by slipping in wet floors.    

But the people are now losing lives in bathrooms due to suffocation from the leaks of gases from geysers. It has also been found that the people mostly leave geysers on for long duration and take bath even without switching off the water heating device.

Globally, experts attribute to fire incidents in high rise apartments to leaks of gases from geysers. They warn that the people are mostly unaware of safe usage of geysers, and they end up becoming victims of the devices from which they expect from the harsh winters.

Last year a newly-wed couple was found dead in the bathroom of their apartments. Two years ago a couple was found dead on Holi in the bathroom of their apartments. Early last year a young woman was found dead in Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh in the bathroom of her house.

Experts advice that the people must take bath after switching off the geysers. Also, they warn that the bathroom should be properly ventilated. The exhaust fans must work in the bathrooms. The windows of the bathrooms should be kept while taking bath. They also stress that the bathroom should not be immediately used after somebody has taken a bath. It may be noted that there had been incidents of electrocution also in bathrooms.  

Experts also advice that the people should store warm water in buckets while keeping doors open. They also suggest that children should not be allowed to take bath with doors of bathroom shut. One should enter the bathroom after the warm water fills the bucket. They advice that the window of the bathroom be kept open while storing warm water in the bucket.
