Rights watchdog accuse Bangladesh media of covering up lynching of Hindus

By Our Special Correspondent

New Delhi, September 6: A Bangladesh Human Rights body has called for international attention amid lynching of Hindu youths. Human Rights Congress for Minorities posted a series of videos showing lynching of Hindu youths in Bangladesh.

Will the international community remain mute spectators to these atrocities, asked the human rights watchdog in a long post on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

In one video posted by the rights watchdog, one Hindu youth, namely Utsav Mandol, was shown to have been lynched to death by a mob. The video showed that the Hindu youth was handed over to a mob by the police station.

The mob accused deceased youth of blasphemy. Incidentally, blasphemy is almost a license to kill the minority community members in Islamic nations.

The mob accused Mandol of blasphemy in the presence of the police station in-charge before taking the custody of the youth. Afterwards, the police personnel dragged back the body of the lynched youth.

“A college student Utsav Mandol (a Hindu Youth) was hacked to death at Khulna City of Bangladesh by Islamists. Allegations against him was (that) he posted statement that is considered blasphemy,” said Human Rights Congress for Minorities of Bangladesh in a post.

It claimed that “without forensic evidence he was detained by police and the mob lynched him in the police station where army personnel were also present. The law enforcement agencies of Bangladesh can also be considered perpetrators in this case given that brutal crime happened on their watch”.

It also posted a picture of a Hindu minor boy, Sukanto Dey, 15 years old, who was lynched to death on Cox Bazar. The spate of killings of the Hindus continues unabated in Bangladesh.

The videos posted by independent handles on X showed that the people celebrated the lynching of the Hindu youth. One police officer was heard pandering to the mob, eulogizing it for giving “Bangladesh freedom”.

The human rights body accused the Bangladeshi media of not reporting the lynching of the Hindu youths. Bangladesh has about eight per cent Hindu population.

The western world has accorded acceptance to the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government Muhammed Yunus by sending congratulatory messages. But the mob killings in Bangladesh are not yet being condemned by the western world.

The western media is, however, reporting that anti-India wave is sweeping through Bangladesh. They have cited wall graffiti to argue that the Bangladeshi people are seething with anti-India sentiments.

Yet, Yunus has said that his country will not become another Afghanistan. Bangladesh mob killings of the Hindu youths, however, shows that Islamic nation is on course to become another Afghanistan.
