New Delhi, February 25: Even after days of Google pausing the artificial intelligence chatbot Gemini, the popular backlash against the search engine is only gaining more force. Billionaire Elon Musk has doubted the ability of Google to genuinely rectify the issue.

In a post on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Musk wrote: “Given that the Gemini AI will be at the heart of every Google product and YouTube, this is extremely alarming!” He further claimed that a senior Google executive had called him who stated that it could take a few months to fix the Gemini Chatbot. Musk claimed that the same executive had earlier believed the the issue could be fixed earlier.

Incidentally, Musk-owned X had removed a sexually explicit picture of Taylor Swift made by Google’s Gemini bot after the US administration issued strict warning. The pause by Google on its image AI is possibly the first admission that the artificial intelligence bots are going astray. The White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had warned of the strict regulations against AI.

A user posted on X that the Google image bot was programmed to be biased against Conservative leaders in the country. A user going by name Texas Lindsay on X claimed that she found through tests run on the Google Gemini AI bot “results show an exhaustive effort by the team at Google to train their A.I. to sway public opinion to discredit and smear Conservatives by going as far as to train its AI to associate Conservative views as the most vile accusations that one can make—the type of accusations that get people ousted from society.”

The Government of India has also issued notice to Google over inappropriate responses given by its Gemini AI on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A social media platform user had shared screenshot to state that the Google bot gave an expansive answer on Modi while underlining that elections are complex to stay away from giving remarks on former US President Donald Trump. The incident also lends strength to the accusation against the global search giant of biases. It had given exhaustive backgrounds on allegations against Modi of being a “fascist”. But it refrained from answering queries on Trump.

Musk also noted the inherent bias at the search engine. He said in the post on X that “unless those who caused the fault are exited from Google, nothing will change”. He expressed that the efforts at best could be to make the bias “less obvious and more pernicious”.
