Ayodhya’s Tourism Boom to Contribute 25% of UP’s ₹70,000-Crore Tourism Industry by 2028

Lucknow, November 22, 2025 — The flag-hoisting ceremony in Ayodhya is further elevating the global prominence of Ramnagari in Ayodhya, said the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday.

“The image of Suryadev (Sun) is depicted on the flag (Dhwaj) of the Shri Ram Mandir. Following the ceremony, the city is expected to witness a further surge in tourist footfall,” added the state government in a media statement.

Visitors from across India and around the world are arriving in Ayodhya to experience its spiritual grandeur and ancient heritage, a development that is expected to significantly boost the city’s tourism momentum, added the state government.

“Between January and June 2025, approximately 23 crore tourists visited Ayodhya. By December 2025, this number is expected to rise to around 50 crore,” said the state government.

It also stated that “with this rapid growth in arrivals, Ayodhya’s tourism revenue is projected to reach ₹4 lakh crore in the coming years. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is implementing a comprehensive action plan to make Uttar Pradesh a $1 trillion economy by 2029, and Ayodhya’s booming tourism sector is playing a central role in achieving this mission.”

Currently, Ayodhya contributes 1.5% to Uttar Pradesh’s GSDP, a share that is set to increase as tourism expands.

“Since the construction of the Shri Ram Mandir, Ayodhya has seen an unprecedented influx of visitors. Approximately ₹2,150 crore has already been spent on the Ram Mandir and associated development works,” added the state government.

The city’s hospitality and service sectors—hotels, restaurants, shops, travel services, puja material vendors, and prasad businesses—are registering record revenues. “To accommodate the surge, more than 76 new hotels have recently opened in Ayodhya. Major private hotel chains, including IHCL, Marriott, Radisson, Kamat, and Lemon Tree, are making significant investments, with a strong focus on ensuring comfort and convenience for domestic and international tourists,” added the state government.

It also stated that “Uttar Pradesh’s tourism sector by 2028 is projected to grow into a ₹70,000 crore industry, with Ayodhya alone expected to contribute nearly 25%. If the current pace of growth continues, achieving the target of ₹4 lakh crore in tourism revenue will be well within reach.”

Following the construction of the Ram Mandir, the annual turnover of pilgrimage-related industries has risen sharply, it added.
