Bengaluru, March 19: The Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) on Wednesday said that the issue of “Aurangzeb is not relevant”. The RSS condemned the Nagpur violence.
“I think Aurangzeb is not relevant,” said Sunil Ambekar, the RSS communication chief, while addressing the media in Bengaluru on Wednesday. He was speaking at a curtain raiser press conference ahead of the ’Akhil Bhartiya Pratinidhi Sabha’ meeting, which is beginning on Friday.
Ambekar said that “any kind of violence is bad”. He was responding to a reporter’s query on Nagpur riots taking place within close vicinity of the RSS headquarters.
Media reports said that the Nagpur violence erupted over the row over the tomb of Aurangzeb. He was a Mughal ruler. Maharashtra’s ruling alliance Mahayuti constituent leaders are making comments on Aurangzeb.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has commented that the film Chhava inflamed “the passion of the people”. The film is on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj. It depicts battles fought by the Maratha warriors against the Aurangzeb Rule in parts of India.

Ambekar didn’t comment on reporter’s claim of the alleged involvement of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in the Nagpur violence. The VHP is an RSS affiliate.
Several jurisdictions under police stations continue to be under curfew. The stone pelting incidents were witnessed amid claims that Muslim’s holy book Quran had been burnt.
Incidentally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Nagpur on March 30. Ambekar said that Modi’s plan to visit the RSS headquarters is “a routine development”. “Such meetings keep taking place,” he added.
Ambekar declined to comment if the meeting between Modi and the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat will be to decide the next president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Ambekar also declined to comment on lack of “praise by Bhagwat for Modi”. Ambekar was asked, why “Bhagwat never praises Modi”.
Meanwhile, Ambekar said that the RSS meeting for three days will deliberate on two resolutions. “First deals with the violence against the minority Hindus in Bangladesh. Second will deal with ‘What Next’ for the RSS,” added Ambekar.
Ambekar said that the “RSS is concerned over attacks against the Hindus in Bangladesh, and even at other places”. “We have held protests also against attacks on the Hindus in Bangladesh,” said Ambekar.
