Vaishnaw Hailed Starlink’s India Entry for Remote Rail Links

New Delhi, March 13: Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw appears to have deleted his post on X to welcome Starlink’s India foray. Vaishnaw welcomed Starlink in a deleted post on X, saying that it will help the Railways connectivity in the remote areas.
“Interesting! Sri Ashwini Vaishnaw ji’s tweet congratulating Starlink on its entry into India has mysteriously disappeared,” Priyank Kharge, the Karnataka Congress leader, posted on X.
Vaishnaw’s welcome post on X was also shared by PTI, India’s largest news agency. But the post now stands deleted from the timeline of Vaishnaw’s X account.
Incidentally, Vaishnaw is also a Minister for Electronics and IT. Reliance Jio in a media statement had said that the partnership with Starlink will be on basis of the policy that may be unveiled by the government.
The Central government has not specified yet the policy under which Starlink, which is owned by SpaceX of billionaire Elon Musk, will be operating in India. Bharti Airtel announced that it will be distributing the Starlink product for wireless services.
Reliance Jio in its statement said that it will distribute the broadband services of Starlink. Musk had called Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Washington visit. Announcements by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel to distribute Starlink products came within three weeks of Musk meeting Modi.
“Union Minister for Railways, Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Wednesday welcomed Elon Musk’s affordable satellite internet service Starlink to India. India’s leading telecom giants, Airtel and Jio Platforms, have partnered with SpaceX to bring Starlink Internet services to the country,” said Sarkaritel in a report.
“Starlink, welcome to India! Will be useful for remote area railway projects,” Vaishnaw’s deleted post on X stated. The media portal quoted Sunil Mittal of Bharti Airtel, saying: “I am glad that this is being followed through with active announcements of partnerships between satellite companies and telecom operators.”
Mittal stated that “for the telecom industry, the addition of satellite technology should be no different from bringing new technologies to its customers”. “Just like 4G, 5G, and 6G in the future, we will now have one more technology in our mix, i.e. SAT-G,” said Mittal in the media statement.
