Anti-virus update behind global Microsoft Window outage

New Delhi, July 19: After hours of disruptions in wide-ranging operations across the world, the technical glitch has been found to have been due to a defect. Airports, banks, and other operations globally were affected because of the Window outage.

The Microsoft has said that the underlying cause of the Window Outage has been fixed. It also added that Window 365 Apps are still affected.

“CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts,’ said George Kurtz, CEO of CrowdStrike.

CrowdStrike is known to be an anti-virus firm working with Microsoft. A report by BBC blamed CrowdStrike for the Window outage.

Crowdstrike produces antivirus software. The BBC in a report said that the global Window outage was linked CrowdStrike. The BBC stated that the the company released a software update that went wrong.

The update began destroying devices using Window, claimed the report. The users saw “blue screen of death” on computers.

Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. “This is not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed,” added Kurtz.

He also urged the customers to refer to the support portal for the latest updates.

Union Minister for Information and technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said Friday afternoon that the government is in touch with Microsoft over the Window outage. “MEITY is in touch with Microsoft and its associates regarding the global outage. The reason for this outage has been identified and updates have been released to resolve the issue,” added Vaishnaw.

The minister stated that CERT is issuing a technical advisory. He added that the NIC network is not affected.

Earlier in the day, the flight operations at several of the airports reported disruptions. Indian airlines operators also issued advisories to the passengers.

Reports said that manual passes were being issued at some of the airports to allow passengers to board flights. Several of the flights in Germany had to be cancelled due to the Window outage.

A largescale disruption was reported from Australia. Airports, banks, and other utilities faced disruptions due to the Window outage.
