Amit Shah in Jammu drums up anti-terrorism poll plank

By Raisina Correspondent

New Delhi, September 16: Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah on Monday said that the government has buried terrorism so deep that it would never revive. Shah accused the Opposition alliance to be soft on terrorism.

The campaigning for the first phase of elections on September 18 came to an end on Monday evening. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) election campaigns by senior leaders have so far focused on the Jammu region.

All the 16 Assembly seats bound for polling in the first phase are in the Kashmir valley. Fifteen Assembly seats in the first phase are from South Kashmir districts alone.

“Sushil Kumar Shinde sahab, who was the Home Minister during the Congress government, has just given a statement that he was scared of coming to Lal Chowk at that time. Shinde sahab, now come with your children, take a walk in Lal Chowk, no one can touch you even a bit,” Shah said in a public rally in Jammu on Monday.

Shinde has come out with an account of his political career in a book. He has revealed the disturbed situations in the Kashmir valley when he was the Minister for Home Affairs.

Shah had piloted the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill in 2019. This was his major initiative soon after taking charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his only rally in J&K so far has also accused the Opposition of raising the bogey of restoring the Article 370. The BJP with a sharp focus on terrorism and abrogation of Article 370 is aiming at the consolidation of the support base in the Jammu region.

The Kashmir valley has a total of 47 Assembly seats. The Jammu region has a total of 43 Assembly seats. The political observers claim that the poll will throw a split verdict. There will be scope for post-poll alliances, they argue.

“We have made Kashmir safe. Today Rahul baba rides a bike in Kashmir and abuses Modi ji while eating ice cream at Lal Chowk,” Shah said while attacking the leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.

Shah further stated: “Rahul baba, you are abusing Modi ji, but this was not possible in your government. Modi ji has buried terrorism to the depths (patal lok).”

The BJP hopes that the muscular nationalism poll plank will steady the party’s fortunes in the Jammu region. Shah and Modi have been harping on the muscular nationalism plank in the Jammu region.
