New Delhi, September 27: Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah on Friday asked full form of MSP from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Shah told a public meeting in Haryana that “some NGO also told us that by saying MSP we will get votes”.
“What is MSP? Do you know? Which is Khari crop, which is Rabi’s, do you know anything,” Shah posed a series of questions for the Congress leader during electioneering for the Haryana Assembly elections.
Shah also asked the “Congress to stop lying to the farmers in the name of MSP”. “The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana is buying 24 crops at minimum support price (MSP). The farmer can sow whatever he wants in his field. The BJP government buys them,” added Shah.

Shah is also the former president of the BJP. He is leading the BJP poll campaign in Haryana Assembly elections.
The Congress is rallying the people on the poll plank of an assured MSP for farmers. Haryana Assembly election is taking place in the shadow of farmers’ agitation.
Farmers’ organisations are holding protests at the Shambhu Border of Haryana with Punjab. The BJP leaders admit that the farmers’ agitation is a poll factor in Haryana.
Gandhi in his election meeting in Haryana has assured farmers that the Congress-led government will procure grains at MSP. The Congress is also demanding a legal guarantee to MSP.

“When the Congress was in power (in Haryana), the price of paddy was ₹1310 (per quintal), now it has become ₹2300. We will buy it for ₹3100. This is the state of millet. The MSP of millet was ₹1250 and (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi ji has increased the MSP of millet to ₹2625,” added Shah in his election rally speech on Friday.
He stated that “when the Congress government was in power, millet was not bought; when your government was in power in Rajasthan, they also did not buy it. The farmers of Rajasthan used to come to Haryana and sell the millet of Rajasthan, because here we used to buy it on MSP”.

Shah also stated that the “MSP of wheat was ₹1400 per quintal. We have increased the MSP of wheat to ₹2275, as well as the MSP of mustard which was at ₹3050 has been raised to ₹Rs 5650”.
The senior BJP leader also asked the Congress to tell “how much do you buy on MSP in Karnataka and Telangana”. “Hooda sahab, farmers call your administration a government of ₹2 compensation because in your time, if there was unseasonal rain, ₹2 cheques were sent for the ruined crop,” said Shah about the erstwhile Bhupinder Singh Hooda government in Haryana.
