The Congress launched a massive attack on Shah on Wednesday. The Congress accused Shah of disrespecting Ambedkar.
The video clip of Shah saying that the Congress takes the name of Ambedkar repeatedly and if god had been invoked in similar fashion heaven may have been achieved. “Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar karte haen…itni baar Bhagwan ka naam liya hota to swarg mil jaata,” Shah is heard saying in the video clip shared by the Congress leaders.
Shah had replied on the discussion on the 75th year of the adoption of the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha. The upper house of parliament discussed the Constitution for two days.
The Congress MPs came with placards with images of Ambedkar to parliament. Both the Houses of parliament witnessed uproarious scenes. The Congress demanded apology from Shah and also his resignation. Both the Houses of parliament were adjourned for the day amid din.
Shah addressed a press conference at the BJP headquarters in the evening. “Ashok Gopal’s authoritative biography of Dr. Ambedkar was released a few months back. It has already received a prestigious award and drawn rave reviews. On Page 794 footnote 50, Gopal quotes a letter of Jan 18, 1952, to Kamalakant Chitre in which Dr. Ambedkar himself writes that the plot to defeat him in the 1st Lok Sabha elections from Bombay North reserved seat was hatched by Dange and Savarkar, who was inflamed by his proposal for the partition of Kashmir,” Jairam Ramesh, the communication department chief of the Congress, said in a post on X.
Dange, of course, was a noted communist leader, added Ramesh. Shah told reporters that statues and memorials of Ambedkar were put up by the BJP-led state government while the Congress had ignored him. Shah demanded appropriate actions against the Congress for the campaign with clipped video.
