Lucknow, November 29, 2025 — Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has cautioned singers against giving a bad name to the party with their “Rangbaaz” songs. His remarks came amid the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) issuing show cause notices to 22 Bhojpuri singers in Bihar after the rout in the just concluded Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference, Akhilesh Yadav made a reference to the role played by the Bhojpuri singers in Bihar. He said that the songs of such singers be not associated with his party.
The SP chief also urged upon the media to not associate singers with his party. Akhilesh Yadav’s concerns drew attention of observers amid assessment within the political community that “Rangbaaz” Bhojpuri songs amplified the “Jungle Raj” narrative of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Bihar Assembly elections.
The Bihar electioneering witnessed a high decibel campaign during which a number of singers sought to glorify the Yadav community with their macho songs. “seene par chah goli utaar denge sixer, se likh denge ahiran (shoot six bullets from the sixer, write Ahiran on chest)” was on of the Bhojpuri song which went viral during the Bihar elections.
The BJP poll machinery cashed in on such “Rangbaaz” songs to link them up with the allegation of “Jungle Raj” against the RJD. Prime Minister Narendra Modi amplified the “Jungle Rak” narrative during the electioneering.
While the RJD has issued show cause notices to 22 singers, observers noted that they aren’t the party workers as they operated on their own in the state. The RJD had fielded Bhojpuri singer Khesari Yadav in the Bihar Assembly elections. Taking his cue, a battery of Bhojpuri singers sought to make a quick fame with their viral songs during the elections in Bihar.
