New Delhi, February 1: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati sharpened attacks on the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. Mayawati dubbed the interim budget presented by Union Minister for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday as an election gimmick.

The BSP supremo is sharpening her attack on the Modi government in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections. She sharply slammed the claims of the interim budget that it would lay the roadmap for a developed nation by 2047.

Mayawati stated in a message posted on the social media platform X, saying that “the budget presented today in parliament by the Central Government, before the Lok Sabha elections, is more of an election gimmick than the ground reality. Thus, it is very sad and worrying to deny the life of the people of the country suffering from immense poverty, unemployment and rising inflation, etc.”

The BSP supremo also hit out at the Modi government for running the ‘Vikasit Bharat’ campaign, which was repeatedly mentioned by Sitharaman in her Budget speech. Mayawati said: “Along with this, if there was ground reality in the government’s claims and promises regarding the country’s economy and development, then more than 80 crore people here would not have been forced to live a life in need of free ration.”

It may be recalled that the BSP supremo had hit out the Modi government in her January 1 press conference in Lucknow in which she had raised the issue of the low per capita income in the country. Mayawati had asserted that the claims of the ‘Vikasit Bharat’ are hollow when the per capita income of the country remains low.

The BSP coordinator Akash Anand also hit out at the Modi government over the presentation of the interim budget. Anand posted on the social media platform X, saying that “the biggest economies of the world are scared of the recession and especially in India, the continuously decreasing demand remains the main reason for the recession. In such a situation, if some money had come into the hands of the people in this budget, then perhaps it would have increased the demand and benefited the economy.”

Anand was apparently taking potshots at the interim budget for not giving any relief to the middle class and others. He further said: “But neither the farmers, nor the small scale industries nor the poor got anything in this indifferent budget. The worst condition was that of the middle class, which like every time, this time too the Finance Minister got away with mere thanks and false hope. Anyway, this government has broken ties with the concerns of the middle class of the country years ago.”
