New Delhi, December 9: A research firm has listed Adani Green Energy as the second largest solar power producers in the world. The flagship renbewable energy company from the Adani Group is the only from Asia to be listed in the top 10 global mega solar power producers. Mercom Capital Group (Mercom), a clean energy communications and research firm, has released its annual global report announcing the ten leading global large-scale solar PV developers. The report is based on data from July 2022 to June 2023. Large-scale projects with 1 MW or more.
Mercom said in the report that “with a total capacity of 41.3 gigawatt, France-based TotalEnergies emerged as the top solar PV developer in the world based on its operational, under-construction, and awarded projects. Adani Green Energy, an India-based renewable energy developer, ranked second with 18.1 gogawatt, followed by Canada-based Brookfield Renewable Partners with 18 GW.”
The research agency stated that the “top 10 developers accounted for 145 gigawatt of operational, under-construction, and awarded solar projects during the reporting period. Of this, 49.5 GW of projects were operational, 29.1 GW were under construction, and 66.2 GW were in pipeline.”
The top 10 global solar developers has six from Europe, three from North America, and one from India. The Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani posted on X: “We are happy to see Mercom Capital’s recent rankings, placing us second globally among the world’s large-scale solar PV developers. The recently listed IREDA on the stock exchange had noted in its prospectus that “India has a large amount of solar energy potential with incidence of approximately 5,000 trillion kilo watts of energy over India’s geographical area each year. It stated that “among various countries like Germany, China, USA, among others, India has the highest solar irradiance. The abundance of solar irradiance and availability of solar energy throughout the year has created enormous opportunities to exploit solar energy especially in states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh.”
