AAP Seeks to Blunt BJP’s Key Poll Plot in Delhi Elections
By Manish Anand
New Delhi, January 8: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday sought to blunt the key poll plot of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Delhi Assembly elections. The AAP launched a frontal attack on the BJP’s ‘Sheeshmahal’ jibe against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj and the Rajya Sabha MP of the AAP Sanjay Singh tied the media in their tails to probe the residence of the Delhi Cm and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders arrived at the Flagstaff residence of the Delhi CM to check the authenticity of the claims of the BJP of ₹33 crores makeover of the bungalow.
Both the leaders later arrived at the 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence of the prime minister for an inspection of the “opulence” of the sprawling bungalow. Between the two events, the AAP grabbed the prime time media slots while the BJP leaders played the supporting acts in the overall day-long drama.
“We have come here to see the golden toilet as claimed by the BJP at the CM residence. But the police aren’t allowing us to enter the premises,” Singh told the media persons. He said that the AAP wanted the media to inspect the claims made by the BJP leaders about the “Sheeshmahal” at the CM residence.
Later, Bhardwaj sat on road ahead of the 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence of the prime minister. Singh and the minister were stopped by the police from further marching towards the PM residence.
“We have come here to see 5500 suits of PM Modi. We also want to see the swimming poll and carpets worth crores. But the police aren’t allowing us to see the ₹300 crore opulence of the PM residence,” Singh told the media persons.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva attacked the AAP leaders, saying that the CM residence had been occupied by Kejriwal. “We all have seen the AAP leaders visiting the Flagstaff residence of the CM after they came out of the Tihar Jail. They should have already seen the luxury of the residence,” Sachdeva told reporters.
With the AAP launching the blitzkrieg with the media in the tow, the BJP was seen playing into the territory of the ruling outfit in the national capital. Modi pivoted the “Sheeshmahal” poll plot at the centre stage of the Delhi electioneering for the BJP. The AAP is seen swiftly accepting the challenge by dragging the PM residence into the narrative to normalise the expenses borne for the makeover of the CM bungalow.
With the AAP leaders exhibiting ease at grabbing the eyeballs, the BJP per political observers is seen reacting to the Kejriwal-led outfit. The AAP by shifting the attention from attack on Kejriwal hopes to gain from the support base among the beneficiaries of the welfare and subsidy schemes in the national capital.
