AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi Dies in Accidental Fire

New Delhi, January 11: The police late on Friday said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurpreet Gogi died in an accidental fire. The police said that the MLA shot himself at his house after dinner accidentally.

“He was going towards the kitchen in the house after taking the dinner. The family members told us that the MLA accidentally fired from his gun. He was shot in the head,” Jaskaran Singh Teja, the DCP of Ludhiana, told reporters.

The police official rejected reporters’ query about the MLA suffering from depression. “There was nothing like that,” said Teja. He added that the police are examining the crime scene.

The Punjab MLA Ashok Pappi told the news agency PTI: “We just received the information. We have brought him to DMC Hospital in Ludhiana.” Pappi said that the hospital announced the AAP MLA brought dead. “The body is in the mortuary while further probe is underway,” added Pappi.

Incidentally, the deceased AAP MLA had last posed a Happy New Year message on X on January 1. His last post on the social media platforms while giving an update of a meeting with the people was posted on December 29 last year.

His profile on X showed the deceased MLA posting briefly being active for the last fortnight. His last message of a public outreach dates December 19 last year.

Gogi had won the 2022 Assembly elections in Punjab from the Ludhiana Assembly seat. He had bagged over 34 per cent vote share in largely a triangular contest to emerge victorious in the elections.

The deceased MLA was a businessman by profession. He had finished his graduation from Salem in Tamil Nadu. His poll affidavit had showed an estimated asset of ₹5 crores.
