Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi used a visit to India to criticize power politics and warn against a “law of the jungle” approach, in remarks widely seen as directed at the United States.
New Delhi, June 24, 2026 — China has issued a stern subtle warning to the US, saying that “the law of the jungle is not sustainable.” While US President Donald Trump is trumpeting the Iran deal to shore up his ratings ahead of the Mid Term in November, Beijing has warned that “upholding international rule” is the key lesson of the Middle East conflict.
In New Delhi, Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi, who is globally ranked as an influential diplomat, spelt out key lessons from the Iran War. He was speaking at the security conclave of the BRICS in New Delhi.
The tone and tenor of Wang resonated with tough messaging by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Trump when he visited Beijing recently. The Chinese FM suggested through his remarks that Beijing will continue to be assertive in its utterances that may concern Washington.
“While the law of the jungle may prevail temporarily, it is not sustainable,” remarked Wang, in an apparent jibe at the US trumpeting strategic gains from the Iran deal.
Wang talked about four important lessons the US−Iran conflict, while speaking at the BRICS conclave. “First, the importance of upholding international rules. The resolution of any regional or international hotspot issues should be based on compliance with international rules,” added the Chinese diplomat.
He further stressed “the importance of respecting national sovereignty. Territorial integrity must not be violated, and interference in a country’s internal affairs is not allowed.” Wang underlined that “these are fundamental bottom-line principles of international morality.”
“Third, the importance of establishing a new security concept. Countries are increasingly becoming communities with shared destinies; pursuing absolute security at the expense of others’ security will ultimately backfire,” added Wang.
He further spotlighted “the importance of understanding new forms of warfare. Traditional and non-traditional security threats are increasingly intertwined, making it timely for BRICS countries to strengthen dialogue and cooperation on security affairs.”
Wang’s participation in BRICS has given weight to the multilateral forum, which lately had been missing from the action. Trump had sought to bully BRICS nations with higher tariffs earlier.
