Uttar Pradesh Sets New Power Supply Record, Surpasses Maharashtra in Peak Demand Fulfilment
Lucknow, May 25, 2026 — Uttar Pradesh has recorded its highest-ever electricity supply, with the state meeting a peak power demand of 31,824 MW, overtaking Maharashtra and setting a new benchmark in power availability. The achievement comes amid extreme heat conditions and rising electricity consumption across northern India.
According to the state government, Uttar Pradesh successfully met the peak demand of 31,824 MW at 10:29 PM on May 24, making it the highest electricity supply achieved not only in the state’s history but also by any state in the country so far. During the same period, Maharashtra reportedly supplied 29,463 MW.
The latest figures indicate a sharp rise in electricity demand as temperatures continue to soar. Earlier, Uttar Pradesh’s highest peak demand in 2025 stood at 31,486 MW, recorded on June 11.
Officials said the Yogi Adityanath government has maintained uninterrupted electricity supply despite mounting pressure on the grid. The state registered supply levels of 29,933 MW at 1 AM, 30,569 MW at 3 AM, 29,573 MW at 5 AM, and 27,392 MW at 10 AM on May 25. Electricity demand of 29,616 MW was also successfully met at 2 PM.
The government highlighted that urban centres including metropolitan cities, divisional headquarters, tehsils, nagar panchayats and industrial areas continued receiving 24-hour electricity supply. Officials said power interruptions in the Bundelkhand region were limited to just 22 minutes on Sunday.
Rural areas also received electricity for an average of 22 to 22.5 hours, exceeding the prescribed roster of 18 hours, providing relief to farmers, households, traders and industries during the ongoing heatwave.
UPPCL Director (Distribution) Gyanendra Dhar Dwivedi said the state load dispatch system ensured uninterrupted supply across major regions despite peak demand conditions.
Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) and Chairman of UP Power Corporation Dr. Ashish Kumar Goyal said all officials and employees have been deployed on a “war footing” to ensure stable supply in line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directives.
State Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma claimed Uttar Pradesh has now emerged as the state with the highest electricity availability in the country.
However, officials acknowledged that localized disruptions could still occur because of technical faults, weather conditions or human-related issues, adding that maintenance teams are working round-the-clock to restore supply wherever required.
