Sunil Singhania-backed Abakkus Investment Managers picks up stake in FMCG maker, triggering sharp rally after months of underperformance
Mumbai, July 16, 2026 — Shares of Mrs Bectors Food Specialities rose sharply in intraday trade on Thursday after Abakkus Investment Managers, the fund house led by veteran investor Sunil Singhania, picked up a stake in the FMCG company through a bulk deal, according to Business Standard, which reported that the stock surged 17 per cent in intraday trade and opened 7 per cent higher at ₹182.01 on the National Stock Exchange.
The rally followed Abakkus Investment Managers Pvt Ltd’s acquisition of 2,939,588 shares of Mrs Bectors Food Specialities through the bulk deal window. The move by one of India’s most closely tracked portfolio managers appears to have reignited investor interest in a stock that had been under pressure for much of the year.
A stock under pressure
The rally marks a sharp reversal for a stock that has struggled through 2026. As per NSE data, Bectors Food shares had underperformed the broader market this year, correcting 24 per cent even as the Nifty 50 slipped nearly 8 per cent over the same period. Over a one-year horizon, the stock had fallen 37 per cent compared with a 4.4 per cent decline in the benchmark index.
Business fundamentals
Mrs Bectors Food Specialities is primarily engaged in bakery products and serves as a strategic supplier and prominent white-label partner for US retail giant Walmart.
On the earnings front, the company reported a 3.29 per cent year-on-year rise in consolidated net profit to ₹35.40 crore for the March 2026 quarter (Q4FY26), with revenue from operations up 8.91 per cent year-on-year to ₹485.86 crore. For the full year, however, FY26 net profit slipped 1.64 per cent to ₹140.88 crore even as total consolidated revenue rose 9 per cent year-on-year to ₹2,074.68 crore.
Not the first Abakkus move
This isn’t the fund’s first known interest in the counter — Mrs Bectors Food shares had earlier risen 9% after Abakkus Investment Managers acquired roughly a 1% stake in the company, suggesting the fund has been building its position incrementally.
Analyst take
Brokerage views on the stock remain mixed. While Geojit Financial Services has recommended buying Mrs Bectors Food Specialities with a target price of ₹252 based on projected growth, other trackers have flagged caution — MarketsMojo had downgraded the stock to “Sell,” citing weakened technical signals and challenging market conditions for near-term price performance.
