Former congresswoman offers no evidence for claim; White House has not confirmed it
New Delhi, August 17, 2026 — Former U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene said Sunday that American officials are weighing the use of nuclear weapons against Iran during internal strategy sessions, an explosive allegation that has not been confirmed by the White House, the Pentagon, or any major news organization.
Posting on X, the Georgia Republican said such discussions were taking place and called the prospect “pure evil,” adding that she was “not speculating” but stating what she claimed to know as fact.
Greene went further in the same post, warning that President Trump could end up delivering what she called a nuclear catastrophe that plunges the world into economic collapse and mass suffering, and said anyone in leadership at the time would be held responsible by history. She closed her post with a direct appeal: stop the war and do not use nuclear weapons.
There seems no transcript, or leaked memo backing up the allegation. It has not been corroborated by any government agency or major outlet.
The claim lands against a backdrop of already sharp tension between Greene and the administration over Iran policy. Greene, who left Congress early last month after a public falling-out with Trump, has repeatedly broken with the president on Middle East strategy in recent months, according to Fox News.
She insists that “Americans had voted for NO MORE FOREIGN WARS AND NO MORE REGIME CHANGE.”
That rift has drawn a sharp response from the administration. In a statement given to Fox News Digital, White House spokesman Davis Ingle dismissed Greene as a “former congresswoman, traitor, and a quitter” while defending the Trump’s record on ending conflicts.
Greene has been a vocal Trump critic on Iran since the U.S. and Israel carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear-linked sites, at one point warning the country was edging toward a nuclear “World War III,” per Newsweek. She has also argued that renewed military action would betray the “America First” promises that helped elect Trump in 2024.
As of publication, neither the White House nor the Pentagon has issued an on-the-record response to Greene’s specific nuclear-strategy-meeting claim, and no independent reporting has verified it.
