The Delhi-Manali Volvo bus rammed into a truck near Tarawari on NH-44, triggering a chain collision with a tractor-trolley; 7-8 people, including passengers and drivers, were injured and hospitalized.

Karnal, Haryana, June 6, 2026 — Several people were injured in a major road accident involving a Volvo bus, a truck, and a tractor-trolley on National Highway-44 near Tarawari in Haryana’s Karnal district on Saturday.

According to police and local sources, the accident occurred when a Volvo bus travelling from Delhi to Manali rammed into a truck moving ahead of it on the highway. The impact of the collision caused the truck to crash into a tractor-trolley, resulting in a chain-reaction accident that left multiple people injured.

Officials said that around seven to eight people sustained injuries in the mishap. The injured include passengers travelling on the Volvo bus, the truck driver, and the driver of the tractor-trolley. Emergency response teams and local police rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the accident.

The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities said none of the injuries appeared life-threatening, though some victims were undergoing medical evaluation. Traffic movement on the busy Delhi-Chandigarh stretch of NH-44 was affected for some time as rescue teams cleared the damaged vehicles from the roadway.

Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that high speed and failure to maintain adequate distance between vehicles may have contributed to the collision.

The incident once again highlights concerns over highway safety involving long-distance luxury buses. Over the years, several major accidents involving Volvo buses have been reported across India. In 2013, a Volvo sleeper bus caught fire near Mahbubnagar in Telangana, killing 45 passengers in one of the country’s deadliest bus disasters. More recently, multiple Volvo bus crashes have been reported on highways in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, often linked to speeding, driver fatigue, poor visibility, or adverse road conditions.

Road safety experts have repeatedly called for stricter enforcement of speed limits, mandatory driver-rest protocols, and enhanced monitoring systems for commercial passenger vehicles operating on long-distance routes.
