Hyderabad has unveiled Donald Trump Avenue beside the US Consulate, becoming the first known Indian city to name a road after a serving US President. The move comes amid celebrations marking America’s 250th Independence anniversary and at a time when India-US ties remain under close scrutiny.
New Delhi, June 24, 2026 — In a first, a road in Hyderabad has been named after US President Donald Trump. Donald Trump Avenue was unveiled on Wednesday in Hyderabad in the presence of US ambassador in India Sergio Gor.
This is the first instance that a road has been named after a serving US President. The road besides the US consulate in Hyderabad will now be called “Donald Trump Anevue.”
“A historic moment in Hyderabad! In honor of America’s 250th birthday, Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu unveiled the plaque officially renaming the road beside the U.S. Consulate as Donald Trump Avenue,” US Consulate General Hyderabad posted on X.
Gor was in Hyderabad as part of the ongoing celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the independence of the US. “We had a fantastic evening celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Joined by industry leaders, innovators, dear friends, and talented musicians from Boston and India, we marked this historic anniversary of U.S. Independence,” Gor posted on X
He further stated that “it was a wonderful celebration of 250 years of American innovation and excellence, and a testament to the strong friendship and enduring partnership between the United States and India.” “A heartfelt thank you to the people of Telangana for this incredible recognition, a testament to our ever-strengthening partnership,” Gor added.
Gor is visiting Indian states as a part of his outreach within India. He had called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay earlier. Gor has so far met at least six Indian Chief Ministers in recent weeks.
The road named after Trump is a rare recognition in India for any serving head of the states in the world. Hyderabad is India’s IT hub, with a strong diaspora community from the city in the US.
India and the US relations are stated to be in a critical phase as the two nations are repairing the ties after Trump tariffed India, while also unveiling tough measures on H1B Visa and Green Cards. Indian IT professionals, many from Hyderabad, are reported to have been inconvenienced due to immigration related measures by the Trump administration.
