CJP Protest at Jantar Mantar Enters Day 4, Police Intimidation Alleged Amid Demand for Dharmendra Pradhan’s Resignation
New Delhi, June 23, 2026 — The indefinite protest led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar entered its fourth day on Tuesday, with organisers alleging police intimidation and reiterating their demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged failures in the country’s examination system.
Students and youth activists held a candlelight vigil to pay tribute to NEET aspirants who allegedly lost their lives amid mounting pressures linked to examination-related controversies. Protesters maintained that they would continue their sit-in until the minister stepped down.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the demonstration was gaining momentum despite it being a working day. “Day 3 at Jantar Mantar. Despite it being Monday, Jantar Mantar is full. The protest will continue tonight as well. We are not going to leave until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns,” he said in a social media post.
The protest has also drawn support from Left-affiliated organisations. The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) said workers’ groups had joined the agitation in solidarity with students demanding accountability for repeated examination leaks and alleged institutional failures.
According to the CPI (ML), All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU) leader and former JNUSU president Sucheta De addressed protesters and linked the students’ struggle to broader issues concerning workers’ rights and social justice. She argued that the movement was not limited to examination irregularities but was also a fight for accountability and the future of young people.
Meanwhile, allegations against the Delhi Police surfaced during the protest. Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed on social media that police personnel stationed at Jantar Mantar befriended volunteers distributing water and refreshments before collecting their mobile numbers. He alleged that authorities subsequently traced their residential addresses and visited their homes to intimidate family members. No official response from the police was immediately available.
Dipke also accused the Delhi Police of demanding Aadhaar cards from individuals attempting to join the protest. He questioned why identification documents were allegedly being sought from protesters and asked whether similar requirements were imposed at political rallies organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Separately, journalist Vedic Dwivedi reported on social media that Delhi Police personnel reached the protest site around 1 a.m. on Monday night. However, the reasons behind the late-night visit were not immediately known, and official details were awaited.
The protest is expected to continue in the coming days as demonstrators seek action from the Union government over examination-related concerns.
